You know when it comes to web hosting; there are things to keep in mind. For instance, a good webhost should;

  1. Support:you want a webhost that will be there when you are in need within the shortest time possible like via Calls, Chats and even email.
  2. Up time:look for one that is at least 99% up and running all the time. You don't want your site to be down most of the time as this can mean loss of revenue if your site is making you money.
  3. Unlimited disk space/storage-some offer unlimited storage space for your website.
  4. Number of domains you host:If you find a plan that gives you unlimited domains that is really great. My plan currently gives me unlimited domains, and so far I have four websites under a single plan. I like the privilege of managing stuff from one location.
  5. Amount of bandwidth
  6. Email accounts and even available features
  7. Database support
  8. Should be easy to install and manage your website
  9. Language support such as php, ruby and many more.
  10. Free Google Adwords credit:I did get 100 bucks from my webhost
  11. Site back up:Your host need to offer backup services for your websites just in case of anything.

A share of my personal experience

When I started out building my sites, I can say it was more of a trial and error , I made lots of mistakes like for instance I remember paying 29 bucks a month for a single domain website hosting , and forgive me because I don't want to start mentioning names! And to be honest ,thats alot of money to pay right there.

Let's do the math together and see how much I used to pay compared to my current plans;

  1. Web host A = 29 bucks per domain, therefore for my 4 websites that would amount to 116 bucks per month. That's like a car payment right there.
  2. Web host B (My current- HostGator) = 6.36 bucks per month for unlimited domains. So for my 4 websites that would total 6.36 bucks per month which I am currently paying. What a huge difference!!

Seriously that was crazy and I learned from my mistakes, and don't want you to make the same.

Of all the web hosts that I have had for the past 5 years, I can say I have had tremendous experience with my current web host company which is HostGator that continue to host my 4 websites in different niches and I have an ecommerce site in the cooking.

Never had any problems with these guys and you can try them, and should you go ahead and register your new website, use the Promo codeDadygator101and you will save 25 % for your registration.

All my websites are CSS and html based that I designed using Adobe dreamweaver CS6 and Adobe Photoshop for the graphics. However, for most people who do not want to do the dirty work like coding, you can opt for Wordpress or Weebly which are both provided by Hostgator.

Using Wordpress is just a flow as most of the work has been done for you already. You just do click and drop the items untill you achieve your desired look and feel of your website.

So the next big question is, how do you register the domain? Well, I am going to use my web host to guide you through the process.

To start registration , go to this link HostGator

Follow this simple guide;
The first thing is to go to HostGator homepage, and click on view web hosting plans button. Once you do this, you will be directed to the page that showcases all the plans available for you to choose from.

For a simple start, select Hatchling plan and you will notice that the major difference with this plan and others is how many domains can be hosted.

With hatchling plan you can only host single domain, and this should not worry you as you can always upgrade your plan to accomodate your needs.

Once you have selected your plan in this case Hatchling Plan. The next thing is to now click on order now button under your chosen plan, and you will be taken to a window similar to the one below.

Check Register a new domain, and inside the provided window below, type in the domain name of the website you have decided on.

And as an example, I tried Indiancuisine which is already taken, a common occurrence as thousands of domains are registered daily, however I tried bestregistrationguide and it worked well.

Still under the same page, confirm your package type under the drop down list as well as your billing cycle. You will notice that under our example, the monthly hosting fee for 12 months is 5.56 bucks instead of 3.36 bucks, why is this?

Well, the reason is that if you select a long term billing cycle like 3 years which I did, your rates will be 3.36 bucks therefore the shorter your cycle, the higher you will pay and I think that is something to consider.

Also as part of the registration process, you will need to select a Username and security pin which will be used to set up your account.

Next you will need to enter your payment details like credit/debit card details or you can pay using PayPal account if you have one.

When it comes to hosting add-ons, the options provided are what I consider to be optional like domain privacy, sitelock and many others.

Some people may not want their personal contacts to appear when someone does a domain WHOis in the quest to know the owner of that website. So like I said before, all these are options services that won't hamper your website day to day operation.

Now as we finalize our domain registration and hosting, don't forget to use the coupon Dadygator101 for you to save 25% on your fees and finally check the box in order to show you have agreed with terms and conditions.
